About Mexico

For those who like history, we inform you that this year 2010, Mexico celebrates the bicentennial of its Independence and the centennial of its Revolution.

catedral_guanajuato

Mexico is a paradise. Few countries offer the diversity of Mexico's surreal deserts, snow-capped mountains, ancient ruins, sleepy colonial towns, and modern cities. Mexico has a long, rich history dating back long before the Spanish explorers' arrival. Planted firmly between Central America and the US, Mexico presents a fascinating contrast between the old and the new.

About Xalapa

xalapa

Xalapa-Enríquez, commonly known as Xalapa or Jalapa is the capital city of the Mexican state of Veracruz. In the year 2005 census the city and its surroundings municipality reported a population of 413,136 inhabitants covering an area of 118.45 km2. Xalapa lies near the geographical center of the state and is the second-largest city after the city of Veracruz.

Travel Information

For those attending the Symposium who will be landing at Mexico City, three options are available to reach Xalapa (one expensive, two cheaper)

Option 1 (EXPENSIVE)

Once at the International Airport of Mexico City, you can get a direct flight to Xalapa with Aeromar airline. The price is around US$ 190.

Click here to go to the Aeromar website

Option 2 (CHEAPER)

Once arriving to Mexico City, you can take a bus inside the airport, which will take you directly to Xalapa.

Given that the times vary, you can always check directly to the website of ADO when the date is closer.

Click here to go to the ADO website

The page is in spanish. Use the following search example:
aeropuerto_ADO

If there are no runs available you should take a taxi to the bus station (TAPO) and then take a bus to Xalapa.

To get to the TAPO bus station

It is advised not to leave the airport and take a taxi outside

You should take a controlled taxi which has a desk inside the airport after passing customs. At this point you will be asked where you are going to and there are fixed rates which you pay in advance. You will be given a ticket which you should give to the taxi driver and ask him to take you to the TAPO bus station (it's very close to the airport)

Once there, take an ADO or UNO bus to Xalapa (the trip takes 5 hours) There are two first-class services lines (ADO-GL and UNO) and one standard; the former two have fewer departures.

Bus tickets can be bought at the bus station as there are departures often :every hour or less.

IMPORTANT: It is very common at airports and bus terminals the spelling JALAPA (with “J”) instead of Xalapa.

Option 3. Landing at Veracruz International Airport (not so expensive)

You can also fly from Mexico City to Veracruz. Once you arrive to the Veracruz'airport, you will need to take the shuttle service directly from the airport to Xalapa (the bus company is ADO). They have shuttles all day until 23:30 You can buy the ticket bus in internet but only one month in advance before the trip to the following page: www.ado.com.mx

Another option is to take a bus from Veracruz city to Xalapa (it takes one hour and 20 mins) the last bus leaves at 10.20pm. On weekends buses run all night long, leaving every hour.

There also direct flights from Houston to Veracruz with Continental Airlines.
